Wishes in the Wind
Into the backyard Patti ran, a chocolate cupcake in her hand. The sun caught her golden curls and the wind blew them in a swirl. “And what should I wish for today?” said the little girl as she played. Stuffing the cupcake in her mouth, she jumped up and started to twirl … faster and faster round and round she spun … she was faster than anyone. Then she dropped kerplop … into grasses mixed with dandelion tops. Step two was to close her eyes and scrunch them tight and wish with all her Heart to make her world Right.
All we saw from our window view was a little girl in Periwinkle Blue. Chubby arms reached to the sky and sticky fingers tried to catch the bits of fluff floating high. As we watched she caught one and giggled and held on tight … then she made a wish … with all her tiny might. With eyes closed she shouted in delight … “I wish for a Mommy and Daddy tonight.
Patti was an orphan child of five and she believed as little girls do … that wishes and dreams can come True. I turned to the couple beside me and they had tears in their eyes… “This is the child we choose!” “Patti I have a surprise for you.”
She opened her eyes and looked at them and grinned a chocolate covered grin. With the Faith of a Child she asked … “Are you Them?”
