Mommy Said
The sunlight played upon the window-pane, it landed softly upon the sleeping child.
It curled the corners of her lips, and tugged persistently, upon her lashes.
Cassie stretched into the morning and sat up in bed. long blonde curls tumbled and swirled around her head.
Throwing back the covers, she landed on the floor, and headed straight for the bedroom door.
And then she remembered what Mommy said, “don’t you dare…wake up your sister.”
She paused but for a second and then raced down the hall, bare feet eating up the carpet … making no sound at all.
Perhaps Kennedy was already wide awake, for goodness sake.
She crept… quietly … into the room … but Kennedy was fast asleep.
She bent her head for a closer look … just to be sure. Her curls tickling her sister's face … the sleeping child stirred.
“OK!” she thought, climbing onto the bottom of the bed. “I can wait.”
And there she sat, quietly waiting, her fingers tickling her sisters feet.
Itsy bitsy spider came next, and remembering what Mommy said, she sang softly,
gently she began to bounce upon the bed … the bounces getting larger.
The bounces got so very big ... the sleeping sister bumped her head.
“Ouch” … Kennedy sat up wide awake ... her fists rubbing her big blue eyes.
“Cassidy … remember what Mommy said. “don’t wake me up!”
Smiling sweetly Cassie said, “I didn’t… are you hungry?”
Slipping off the bed and holding hands ... they raced quietly … down the hall.
Two blonde heads with curls bobbing ... feet bare,
they thumped … quietly down the stairs … remembering what Mommy said.
