If all the World were Green

Imagine: Falling asleep in the darkness that we know as night and awakening to a world with only green.  Outside your door, your garden with all its different shapes and sizes lies covered in a sheen of green.  There is no definition, no pops of colour, one plant just blending into another. There is no wonder on the individuality of each tender flower. No joy. No inspiration. No beauty. The loss would be ours!

Imagine: The pines and the oaks, the maples and the elms, the white barked birch, have quietly disappeared into the total colour of green. We see not their beauty but only a distant memory of that which has been. This leaves us with really nothing … actually to see. A darkness has crossed before our eyes … the colour green!

There would be: No shades of light after the black of night. The sky has disappeared as if it had never been, lying now in a sea of green. Dawn’s awakening is gone with no promise of it ever having been. The sun does not rise, it lies lost and forgotten in clouds of green.

There is little hope of sunsets streaking dramatically across our sky in colours of red and orange and shades of pink. Their beauty … their magic … lost and forgotten.

There would be no sand dunes running down to waters Blue. No crested waves riding the sun’s light. “We can no longer see … that which is lost.” The miracles have ended.

The wonder that has filled our life with adventure, and questions and reaching for “new horizons” … has gone, lost in a fog of green.

We cannot see … birds in flight, we hear only the mixture of each bird’s distinct call. Their physical beauty has disappeared. We have only their music that fills our ears.

“Something vital is missing!”

Imagine: There are no stars that fill our nights for stars release light. These too are gone, mixed only in smokey green … unseen! Beyond our reach!
We are left with nothing to reach for, to dream about, to want. There is nothing to want … for all we have got … is something the “same.” Green!
There is no need to travel to far away countries for we will discover nothing new, only the green left behind … upon our new world.
We stay rooted in one spot with no desire, no imagination, no dreams … we wander about lost … in a murky green, searching for “more,” without HOPE!

If the flowers in our gardens cannot be seen, then the people of the world must all be the same with …  no colour, no individuality, no ethnic truth for the distinct possibilities … that once had been. These individuals, all of us with our quests, and inventions, and exceptional talents … who create the miracles that we have come to expect, have all disappeared, lost in the “sameness of earth’s green,” not seen!

And so the world at large has failed to explore: the God given gift

“Of a life made whole.”

There is nothing left for us to reach for, to search for, to explore.
Can we not learn to share the amazing gift of: More?
By embracing our differences, opening our hearts and searching for truth we walk towards … a life well lived.
Can we seriously … ask for more … than this?
Otherwise … we ourselves may … “cease to exist.”
Just asking … just pondering … what if?
